Wine Gift Basket

Wine Country Gift Basket: The Most Popular Wine Gift Basket

There a probably hundreds of wine gift choices available for wine lovers.
One of the most popular through is a wine country gift basket. They were one of the original gift basket companies and they continue to be one of the most popular. Yet, for true wine lovers their gift baskets may not be the best option. However, before I talk about that let's examine why they are so popular.

Probably the most important reason why a wine country gift basket has become such a popular choice is that they are relatively inexpensive. With prices starting at just $30 for the most basic basket, almost anyone can afford them. Even their most expensive choices are usually no more than about $200, making them popular choice as they offer good value for money.

The second reason why a wine country gift basket is a popular choice for many people is their large range of choices. Currently they offer over 30 different wine gift basket choices with all kinds of different combinations. Their most popular baskets include such things as chocolates, biscotti, caramels, cookies and much more in addition to red and white wines from the United States and around the world.

This brings us the third related reason for their popularity. Many people enjoy giving a wine country gift basket as a present because it offers more than just wine but other goodies that I outlined above. Obviously, many people think that giving food and wine together is better than just giving just a plain wine or ford gift basket. For the casual wine drinker this may be the case but for the true wine connoisseur a wine country gift basket may not be the best choice.

Now let me explain why. It may seem like good value to give gift basket with wine and other food items since you are giving more than just wine. However, you are in effect paying for the food at the expense of the wine. A real wine lover will prefer to be given a $30 bottle of wine rather than a $30 gift basket that includes a $15 bottle of wine and $15 worth of other food. Thus a wine country gift basket in this case will not be the preferred option.

This leaves two wine gift options for those who truly love their wine. The first is to go to a local wine shop and ask the staff their about their opinions on what wine to give as gift. You should of course have a general knowledge of the of the wine preferences of the person you are giving the gift to. For example do they prefer red or white, new world or old world, sweet or dry wines. Armed with this information the staff at your store can help you.

A second alternative, and my personals favorite, to the wine country gift basket is to give a membership to a wine club. This way the gift you give will keep giving wine all year long. Better yet the membership to these clubs are not much more than a wine country gift basket. Moreover, all the value will be spent on wine instead of being split among wine and food.

The key to your gift should be to determine the degree to which the person you are giving it likes wine. If they only drink it occasionally then a wine country gift basket makes a great choice. On the other hand, if they truly love wine either going to a local wine shop or buying a wine club membership makes the most sense.
