Wine Gift Basket

Gourmet Wine Gift Basket: Perfect

A gourmet wine gift basket is the premium choice for any wine lover. Essentially, it includes a collection of gourmet foods and of course extremely high quality wine. The food choice should be designed to compliment the wine. Thus, your wine and food selections will vary.

The reason most people choose a gourmet wine gift basket versus a regular wine gift basket is because they want the gift to be a little more special. These days almost anyone can give a wine gift basket, with some of them priced below $20. While this may seem like a good deal you get what you pay for.

It makes no sense that you would be able to buy a gift basket with good food and good wine for less than a good bottle of wine alone. Thus, when choosing to give a gourmet wine gift basket you will need to spend more than $20.

A good general rule of thumb is that the food in the basket should make up about half the value of the gift with wine making up the other half. In my opinion you should spend no less than $50. If this is too much than I think you should decide to give only food or only wine. It is better to give one really good gift than two mediocre ones.

Another thing to consider is the type of wine you want to give. Obviously you should pick something you know the other person is going to like. Don't pick a sweet ice wine if they prefer a dry Bordeaux. If you are unsure, it is better to ask than guess. Many wine drinkers are particular to their type of wine and don't enjoy other kinds.

Finally, you will need to consider the type of food to be included in your gourmet wine gift basket. Ideally this should be paired with the type of wine you have chosen. Common food items include: cheese, crackers, and nuts for regular wines and cookies and chocolate for desert wines. Obviously your specific choice for these types of food will depend on your wine choice.

One other thing you might want to consider when trying to pick a gourmet wine gift basket is the ability to customize. Most wine gift basket companies will allow you some degree of customization, but not too much. They prefer offering their generic offerings because it is cheaper for them.

However, if you are paying a significant amount of money (e.g. Over $100) then you should demand the right to remove anything you don't want and/or add anything you do. This will make the gift much more personalized and in the end more appreciated.
